I am trying to set up a Lexmark CX510de printer, using the TWAIN driver to scan across an Ethernet network. I installed the printer driver on a PC running Windows 10 64-bit, but there is a problem with the TWAIN driver. Windows Fax and Scan can see the printer TWAIN driver (reporting it as “Lexmark CX510de (Lexmark)”), and the program appears to proceed with the scan. However, on completing the scanning, the following error message appears: “A problem prevented the document from being scanned. Please try again, or for troubleshooting information, see Help and Support or the information that came with the scanner.” I have tried VueScan, another program that uses the TWAIN driver and should work with any printer that uses a TWAIN driver, but this had similar problems. When the initial installation did not work, I installed Lexmark_Network_TWAIN_Scan, but this made no difference.
I have checked the presence of the TWAIN driver in the Windows folder. There is a driver in the Windowstwain_32LexmarkNetworkTWAIN folder, but no driver in the Windowstwain_64 folder. (Incidentally, there is also an HP multifunction printer installed on the network, and the driver for that printer is also located in the Windowstwain_32 folder, and that scanner works perfectly.) Some time ago, I tried installing the driver on a Windows 7 64-bit PC, and it had the same problem. I spent a long time discussing the problem with Lexmark, including a 2-hour session with a Lexmark engineer having remote access to my PC. However, the engineer was unable to help, and concluded by saying that I should use a USB connection instead of an Ethernet connection.
I did so, but this was very disappointing, since I purchased the printer for use as a network printer. I have just built a new PC, and would really like to get this printer working as a network printer. Can anyone suggest what could be going on, and how I might resolve the problem?
I installed Lexmark_Network_TWAIN_Scan, but this made no difference That’s because you aren’t using TWAIN at all. Windows Fax And Scan does not use TWAIN to communicate with the scanner, it uses WIA (Microsoft’s proprietary alternative to TWAIN.) On my system I have 5 TWAIN drivers, but Windows Fax And Scan only sees the scanner that has a WIA driver. Similarly, VueScan does not use TWAIN to control your scanner, it includes its own drivers for all the scanners it supports. As it says on the website: “It replaces the software that came with your scanner”. VueScan itself can function as a TWAIN driver to applications, but only if it can already communicate directly, on its own, with your scanner.
I guess it’s possible, but I would be surprised if VueScan supports any scanner over a network connection – VueScan seems to like USB, Firewire & SCSI. So I’m not sure we’ve established that TWAIN is working with any scanner on your PC, including that HP multifunction, or that you need TWAIN to work on your system, since you haven’t mentioned any applications that scan using TWAIN. Cara Instal Windows Xp Pada Hp Mini 110 Notebook Pc.
If you are happy scanning with Fax And Scan, which uses WIA, it seems pretty clear to me that the Lexmark network WIA driver isn’t working. Your Lexmark is listed as a WIA device, you can initiate a scan (I assume the printer wakes up and makes scanning noises) – so we know the WIA driver is communicating with the printer.
Unless Lexmark is claiming that Fax And Scan has a bug, all the symptoms point to a bug or configuration problem with the Lexmark WIA driver, or the Lexmark printer. Yes, it’s possible that Fax and Scan has a bug – but then why does the HP multifunction work?
(I’m assuming you tried it with Fax And Scan.). I’ve rechecked on Ed Hamrick’s web site, and it appears that although VueScan uses its own drivers for the printers that it supports, it is also likely to work with printers for which the manufacturer provides a WIA driver (which, I believe, is the case with the Lexmark CX510de). Epson Lx 300 Ii Driver For Windows 7. But, as you say, it doesn’t support TWAIN drivers. I’ve been using Windows Fax and Scan for diagnostic purposes. My aim is to use VueScan, but in view of what you say, it remains to be seen whether I will succeed in get VueScan working across a network. Since this is not a TWAIN problem, I’m clearly off topic for The TWAIN Forum.
