In view of my experience, this post of 2012 still seems to be applicable today with Windows 8.1 - BUT with slight variation. I am still progressing this with Canon but they seem to be completely unaware of the above post!

The limit of 46 characters certainly works and can be the solution to my problem BUT I genuinely believe that there has to be a reason for it. In my case I gave a recognised Australian service bureau access to my new computer to install a D: partition on the hard drive. They performed this task by 'Create and format hard drive partitions', after typing “partitions” in the Start Screen. Epson R300 Factory Reset. My concern is this. ZoomBrowser EX can access all photo files whatever their name length when the files are on C: drive. ZoomBrowser EX can happily access all photo files on D: partition SO LONG AS their total name length is less than 46.

Who is creating this problem - Microsoft or Canon?
